A celebration of all things train draws crowds on Saturday, Sept. 9 to the two-day Los Angeles Union Station Train Festival.
On display were old trains, the full-sized kind and the model train variety. A diesel locomotive charms attendees, having been rescued from a scrap heap and restored by the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris. It ran during the American Bicentennial celebration.
Not to be outdone, the impressive Santa Fe steam locomotive was on the tracks, near where it once took passengers from Los Angeles to Chicago and Kansas City.
Model train displays, as well as the unique architecture of the grand building in Downtown L.A., now home to Amtrak, LA Metro and Metrolink trains, occupied the onlookers.
The train festival continues on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
